What is non-ablative laser skin resurfacing and how does it work?

Non-ablative laser resurfacingIt is a process of skin rejuvenation with laser energy without damaging the epidermis.

In this case, the laser energy is converted into thermal energy. Controlled thermal stimulation stimulates the extracellular matrix and triggers collagen formation.

Interacting with the water molecules contained in the skin cells, the radiation has a tonic and regenerating effect on the skin and initiates the process of its rejuvenation.

The water content in the epidermis is about 10-15%, in the deep layers of the skin it is much more - 70-75%. Due to this, during the non-ablative laser resurfacing procedure, the effect of the beam on the epidermis is minimal.

Passing through the manipulator, the laser beam is divided into microbeams in the form of a grid and forms closed coagulation columns in the deep layers of the skin, located at the same distance from each other. During the session, the skin cells around the columns are exposed to heat, which activates the metabolism and promotes cell rejuvenation. Old cells are destroyed and replaced by new ones, so it is possible to achievelifting effect. The skin acquires elasticity, even tone, looks younger.

Indications and contraindications

The non-ablative laser resurfacing procedure is ideal for:

  • elimination of visible age-related changes in the skin: wrinkles, folds, sagging, dryness;
  • removal of age spots;
  • complexion improvement;
  • correction of keloid scars;
  • fight acne, etc.

Laser resurfacing is not performed if the patient has any of the following contraindications:

  • oncological diseases;
  • inflammatory processes on the skin;
  • exacerbation of a chronic disease;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • immunodeficiency, etc.

The decision to perform a laser resurfacing procedure is made by a specialist after examining the patient.

How is non-ablative laser resurfacing performed?

Before the session, the skin of the treated area is cleaned, in some cases a peeling is performed. A cosmetologist uses a laser beam on the surface of the skin in the problem area, bringing the manipulator closer to the skin.

During the session, the skin does not experience discomfort, thanks to the cooling system integrated in the manipulator. Because of this, laser resurfacing does not require additional anesthesia of the treatment area.

Session Results

After 1-2 days after laser treatment, the skin condition improves markedly. It acquires a uniform and fresh tone, recovers lost elasticity, small wrinkles and age spots disappear. Active rejuvenation of skin cells has a toning and tightening effect, due to which the patient looks 5-10 years younger.

In terms of effectiveness, the procedure is not inferior to the results of plastic surgery. Safety, lack of surgical intervention, and postoperative recovery period make this method extremely popular with both women and men.
